Different SAMSON valve accessories can communicate using HART®, PROFIBUS®, or FOUNDATION™ fieldbus to integrate control valves into existing process control or asset management systems. Integration has several benefits:

  • Integrated control valves can be started up and configured from one central location.
  • Functions, such as status logging or valve diagnostics, can be used optimally.

There are numerous device integration files for engineering tools and systems available for downloading for smart, communication-enabled valve accessories.

GSD files are the master data of PROFIBUS/PROFINET devices which describe their functions. PROFINET devices with Ethernet-based communication use GSDML (Generic Station Description Markup Language) files which are GSD files written in XML format.

The GSDML file contains all the relevant information required for engineering and data exchange:

  • Device identification
  • Device type and family
  • Brief description in user language
  • Manufacturer

SAMSON provides the GSDML files for the TROVIS 3797 Positioner.

GSDML files can be downloaded directly from the device manufacturers' sites or the PROFIBUS User Organization website.

The downloadable files contain the same data as the software that SAMSON supplies together with the TROVIS 3797 Positioner with PROFINET communication.

When managing PROFIBUS-DP and PA systems, the master data for the device type used (GSD file) must be uploaded to the automation unit (Class 1 master).

As a result, all manufacturers supply their field units with this special device database file. The file contains information on the software and hardware revisions, bus timing data, and device-specific status information.

SAMSON provides the GSD files for the Type 3730-4 Positioner.

 

GSD files can be downloaded directly from the device manufacturers' sites or the PROFIBUS User Organization website.

The downloadable files contain the same data as the software that SAMSON supplies together with the Types 3730-4 and 3785 Positioners with PROFIBUS communication. They include a README text file as well as several GSD files to match the different firmware versions.
