SAMSON has decided to discontinue production of the FOCUS-1 smart meter valve by the end of the first quarter of 2026. The product was developed within FOCUS-ON, the joint venture established by KROHNE and SAMSON in 2019 to combine measurement, control, and digital technologies in a single device. With the discontinuation of production, the joint venture will also be concluded in an orderly manner.
FOCUS-1 pursued an innovative approach that brought together measurement, control, and digital connectivity with edge intelligence and seamless integration into industrial systems. In developing and launching FOCUS-1, both companies acted with entrepreneurial courage and worked within the joint venture with the agility of a start-up. In this same spirit, and following a comprehensive review of our technology roadmap and product strategy, we are now taking another entrepreneurial decision and discontinuing the product for the time being.
Despite its technological maturity and positive results in several pilot applications, FOCUS-1 did not achieve the expected level of market adoption. In addition, current geopolitical and economic conditions have shifted investment priorities and slowed modernization efforts across many industries.
Applications in electrolyser systems, oil cooling, and wastewater treatment have demonstrated the industrial readiness of FOCUS-1. However, scaling these successful use cases proved challenging in the current market environment. The insights gained will be incorporated directly into the development of the next generation of smart meter valves, which will be aligned even more closely with evolving market requirements.
SAMSON will continue to support all existing FOCUS-1 installations for a defined period. Affected customers will be contacted individually to coordinate appropriate solutions and next steps.
With this decision, SAMSON and KROHNE are creating clarity for the future direction of their product portfolios while continuing to focus on innovation in intelligent valve technology.
