UBIX to become integral part of SAMSON portfolio

SAMSON AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT and the industrial services provider Bilfinger SE agreed on a joint venture – ubix GmbH – to continuously develop the state-of-the-art UBIX digitalization and automation platform. UBIX was established in 2011 and is currently being used in numerous companies active in energy management, mechanical engineering, and the process industry.

"SAMSON has acquired majority ownership of ubix GmbH, and with Bilfinger as our close partner, we will take a quantum leap forward in digital business models, plants, and process optimization," said Mr. Peter Knapp, Chief Digital Officer at SAMSON.
"UBIX will become an integral part of the SAMSON portfolio and open up new opportunities in terms of integrating and visualizing different process management levels. This will also be beneficial to the solutions that SAMSON and other manufacturers have already introduced to the market," added Dr. Thomas Steckenreiter, member of the SAMSON Executive Board for Research and Development.

UBIX as a modular platform provides maximum scalability as well as maximum flexibility for all industries when it comes to integrating different process control systems. Contrary to common control and monitoring systems, UBIX is also suitable for use in smaller plants with its cloud-based approach of providing software as a service. Thanks to universal interfaces, UBIX can easily be connected to expert systems. These systems enable companies to tap into different sources of data, also those that were previously inaccessible. As a result, great potential can be unlocked to increase plant efficiency and availability.

Mr. Gerd Witzel of Bilfinger said on the joint venture: "Within the context of digitalization, we at Bilfinger do not consider ourselves developers, we rather see ourselves in the role of experts in implementing highly professional products and solutions. Nevertheless, it is important for us to retain direct access to the technologies, functions, and development of UBIX. By entering into the joint venture with SAMSON, a provider of products and solutions for all kinds of industrial processes, we stringently follow this strategy. On top, this partnership will open up further opportunities for cooperation between the two companies."

ubix GmbH is headquartered in Flensburg and has some 25 employees. Mr. Peter Knapp, CDO at SAMSON, and Mr. Gerd Witzel, managing director at Bilfinger GreyLogix GmbH, will act as chief executives.
