Special features

  • Integration into existing systems possible
  • Proven two-wire connection in hazardous areas
  • Direct process control by the positioner possible

The requirements being placed on process automation become stricter as digitalization progresses. SAMSON demonstrates that the required high data rate and horizontal interconnection of devices on field level using APL (Advanced Physical Layer) can be implemented. The two-wire system based on Ethernet in the field serves as the basis for communication in smart IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) solutions in process automation. Tasks previously performed by one central control unit can be transferred to modules and field devices. This approach has also been implemented in the exhibited demonstrator, where the TROVIS 3793 Positioner functions as the central control unit.

The setup simulates a liquid level control system. The tank's filling level is regulated by a control valve fitted with a TROVIS 3793 Positioner. Two pressure sensors, which transmit their measured values to the positioner, are installed upstream and downstream of the valve. In combination with the valve characteristic saved in the positioner, the positioner can calculate the flow rate and thus verify the values measured by the flow meter installed in the pipeline.
